About Me

Hello, I’m Melissa

Welcome to Mel’s Mind Body Renewal, where healing, healthy habits, and transformation come together.

I’m a quiet soul, a lover of lifelong learning, and a mother.

I’m not a doctor, fitness guru, or diet expert. I’m simply a woman committed to becoming the best version of herself.

I want to share what worked for me and the lessons I learned along the way, not only through my weight-loss journey, but also through my inner healing and personal transformation. This website isn’t about perfection or quick fixes. It’s about resilience, self-discovery, healing, and lasting change.

What I’ve learned is that true transformation is about coming back home to yourself.

In 1997, during my senior year of high school, I gave my life to God. While this isn’t a religious or political blog, my faith is an important part of who I am. My relationship with God has shaped my values and guided my growth.

As a full-time single mother, my children became one of my greatest motivations. I wanted to build a healthier life not only for myself, but also for my children who were watching me every day. I understood the importance of leading by example and showing them that growth, perseverance, resilience, and change are possible.

In September 2015, I made a commitment to myself to lose weight and embrace a healthier lifestyle. What I thought would be a weight-loss journey became something much deeper.

Over the next 10½ years, I’ve lost more than 120 pounds and developed a passion for health and wellness. I’ve completed 5K, 10K, and 12K races, as well as Spartan obstacle races I once thought were impossible. While losing over 100 pounds was a significant milestone, the greatest change wasn’t physical. It was internal.

As I worked on my physical health, I was also healing emotionally, developing self-trust, and cultivating healthier habits.

The quiet girl who enjoyed solitude, reading books, mysteries, and having an unquenchable thirst for knowledge was learning to live in alignment with herself.

The introspective woman who values depth, meaning, and understanding has come to embrace these parts of herself. Through healing and self-discovery, I realized I wasn’t becoming someone new—I was returning to the person I had always been.

Today, I can honestly say that I have become the woman I always wanted to be. Not because my life is perfect, but because I am happy, at peace, comfortable in my own skin, and true to myself.

I believe transformation is possible, even in the middle of real life.

Whether you’re just beginning your journey, wanting to improve your health, or simply wanting support, I hope you’ll find practical tools for everyday life, along with encouragement, hope, and inspiration here.

If my story can encourage even one person to take a small step toward a healthier, happier life, then sharing it is worth it. Family and friends have told me that my journey inspired them, and one comment has stayed with me. My nephew once told me that my story didn’t push him—it nudged him. To me, that’s what real inspiration is: not forcing change, but gently reminding someone of what’s possible. My hope is that something here might be that nudge for you.

In Loving Memory

This journey was not walked alone.

I carry with me the love, encouragement, and lessons of those who helped shape my life. This is dedicated in loving memory to my dad and my best friend.

To my dad: You passed away while I was four months pregnant with my daughter, but you were always in my corner. When others saw my weight, you saw me. You stood up for me, defended me, and reminded me of my worth when I struggled to see it for myself. I know you would be proud of your baby and the woman I have become.

To my best friend: You were one of my biggest cheerleaders. On my 40th birthday, you told me you were proud of me, admired my drive and determination, and couldn’t wait to see the joy that the next chapter of my life would bring. Though you are no longer here to witness it, you were right. The life I have today is filled with healing, growth, purpose, and peace.

While neither of you are here to see where this journey has led, a part of each of you lives on in me through the woman I’ve become. Your love and belief in me continue to remind me of how far I’ve come.

Though you are gone, you’re not forgotten. I hope I have made you proud.
